I think $1,500-2,000 makes it at least price competitive with other premium headsets. Right now the price feels more like the Airpods Max, where it's a good 15-30% more expensive than the pre-existing high end ANC headphones were.
I'm not sure exactly how much Apple subsidized the original iPhone, but if they want adoption and want people actually using this thing, they'd better use the same strategy.

at $2700 and a 30% Apple premium puts it in at $3500.
