Ask HN: Why not close one eye to select in the Apple Vision Pro?

You could even make it so that closing your left eye does a primary select while closing your right eye does a secondary select.

Frankly that sounds exhausting to me. Do an experiment: for the next hour, every time you click something, blink your right eye. See how long it takes for fatigue to set in.
What about a slow blink with both eyes to select?
Seems like there could be a lot of false positives in that, and some high frustrations.

If I slowly blink my eyes right now, I'm more prone to doze off than stay hyper-focused on whatever I'm working on.

- Eyestrain is already an issue with VR

- Your eyes are being reprojected on the other side and it would probably look awkward

- Hands offer a more contextual options than two eyes do

The headset could omit animating the closing of one eye.
Some people with otherwise perfect eyesight (like me) physically can't do that.

For what it's worth, I deliberately trained myself to be able to do that as a kid. I noticed I couldn't, and it bothered me, so I just kept practicing until I had it down. I don't know whether it's possible to train as an adult, though.
