Their issue is that they are not employed by Amazon, so Amazon is just ignoring them, and they want Amazon to pay attention to them and negotiate.

They don't have a good bargaining position here because there is much demand to become a delivery driver.

It's kind of a hollow win for them - they made a union, they came to an agreement with their employer - and their employer has no work for them because Amazon claims the employer underperforms.

(And delivery vans really should have A/C.)

Their issue is that the company they work for is essentially a vassal of Amazon and the system is set up this way so that Amazon isn't held accountable for the worker abuses that ultimately result from the KPIs set by Amazon.

This economic system is starting to feel like crypto-feudalism...

Starting?

This issue is one of the reasons why I stopped using Amazon a couple of years ago. It's certainly not unique to them, of course, but they're huge, optional, and you have to start somewhere.

You might be right that their partial victory may get them nowhere. But the more salient issue in my opinion is that they are unionized and 'extorted' some concessions from their employer that the employer cannot make good on, because Amazon makes the rules. That is a real conundrum, which may get attention from courts (if they have a good lawyer).

Are delivery drivers in surplus?

This article is a little old but explains: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/09/amazon-flex-drivers-use-bots...

The quote: "Drivers say competition has grown so intense that they’re increasingly relying on bots to get work, even though the tools violate Amazon’s terms of service."

There is far more demand for this kind of work then there is work available.
