I'm just a layman who swings a hammer for a living so what do I know, but in my opinion it's 100% completely clear and obvious what's causing this sort of stuff to happen. The shareholder / rent-seeking class is poisoning us with plastics and forever chemicals just so they can acquire more magic capitalism points. The air we breathe, the food we drink, it's all contaminated.
I'm with you on this. We eat synthetic goop, we rub synthetic goop all over our bodies, we breath the byproducts of making synthetic goop. Almost everything we interact with is toxic.
I also suspect fragrances are a source of toxins. From soaps to cleansers, trash bags, air fresheners... They are all synthetic chems expressly designed to be breathed. No way it's good in long term
i can't remember where i heard something similar, but yes they absolutely are.
aerosol air fresheners are the worse but even those foamy ones one hangs from the car's rear-view mirror are super bad for you.
do they put smells in trash bags? this seems like it would sum up everything with the modern world.
in the UK our bin bags just smell like the arse end of a factory.
I also suspect this. We'll find out decades from now.
Like woops, we shouldn't have put lead in gasoline, even though we knew it was hazardous. Or sorry for putting flame retardant chemicals in all of your furniture and bedding, that gradually absorb into you.
It wouldn't surprise me if micro plastics and forever chemicals etc have worked their way into everything.
There are much more obvious causes and they are also explained in the article. While studies have yet to establish a real link between e.g. microplastics and cancer, diets rich in sugar and red meat, sedentary lifestyles as well as diabetes have been known to increase cancer risk for a long time. Since obesity-related cancers have seen the most dramatic rise, it is not hard to see the connection here. Especially young people have been exposed to these unhealthy diets and lifestyles from very early on in their lives.
> When it comes to the uptick in testicular cancer, meanwhile, he says rising cannabis use is likely the leading culprit.
Passing mention in the story, but is this a common hypothesis? I’m aware of UCSD research suggesting THC suppresses apoptosis [0], but that’s very different than being mutagenic.
