Proton mail user experience nightmare

protonmail used to always be protonmail.com

They later allowed people to register under proton.me, which is shorter

Sounds great, but why didn't they register protonmail.me when registering proton.me? Think of how many people accidently registered using protonmail.me, which goes nowhere.

So annoying . Some websites do not allow you to change the email until after verifying it, so you are locked out for good if you make that mistake.

Ahmm, it used to be protonmail.ch! I have few emails with that old one!

Does that mail address still work?
Yep! The only problem (if you consider it problem) is when protonmail started the service, in addition to the password and 2FA, there’s an extra password for the mailbox itself, which they “merged” later both the email and mailbox passwords when they introduced the .com one, so all new email needs one password, old .ch ones need two passwords.
