Considering how much effort the (then) U.S. Army Air Forces put into analyzing enemy supply chains during WWII, you'd think that they would retain awareness of such things.

OTOH, consider the WWII U.S. Navy's issues with Navy-designed, Navy-manufactured torpedoes that were not (meaningfully) tested, and did not actually work. And the USN's extreme efforts to deny and cover up such problems...
