It's easy to forget, but the unabomber's problem was never his ideas. Many people at the time recognized the peril of a technocapitalist race to generate more and more buttons to press purely for the sake of pressing the buttons. People just didn't think that mailing bombs to university professors and computer salesmen was a sane way to address it.
I read “Industrial Society and Its Future” a few years ago, and I was pretty surprised by how much of it I agreed with.

His ideas and observations about various issues facing modern capitalist society are interesting, but like you say, the whole murdering people thing didn’t seem to be the answer.
