A couple of years ago, when I was eating out regularly, I stumbled upon a great waiter who gave excellent service. Asked for his table every time, tipped generously, and immediately he began suggesting and comping our table any desserts we wanted every visit we made. The return-on-investment paid off nicely.
Editorialized title does not match what's in the article:

> According to Bankrate, just 65% of American adults always tip their servers at sit-down restaurants

"65% always" is _very_ different than "35% never"

By this definition, I’d fall I the 35% despite typically being a generous tipper.

I _almost always_ tip. However, I do not tip for shit service. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.

That's some hilarious new math right there.

I wonder if Jared always tips 35% when he goes out to eat.

Perhaps the data are commingling true sit-down service with take-out and pickup-at-the-counter service. Does anyone actually tip for take-out, or when you are handed your order at the counter? That would be bizarre... there was no waiter or waitress involved, why would you tip. But those tabs are rung up on the same machine.
