I clicked because I thought it was an editorialized headline, but it's real. I didn't read beyond the intro, but that's super fucked up. I hope a lot of people go to jail, and I guess that more resources go into policing this kind of thing... I hate the idea of that (more policing) but I don't see how society can turn a blind eye to something like this.
I would argue in favor of free speech in this context because it makes it easier to catch the perpetrators. Allowing free speech allows them to incriminate themselves. If you automatically delete text about torture, you can’t find out about torture and help the victims.
I thought this was going to be some quasi-hyperbolic claim about forced monkey labor (which is also not great) but nope, straight up sadistic monkey torture.
At some point messaging platforms (in this case, Telegram) will have to start banning accounts/groups that are blatantly disgusting. It's not some perfect strategy but it adds friction to these activities.
