Ask HN: What domain registrar are you moving to?

5 points by dimmke ↗ HN
I loved Google Domains for how convenient it was, but I'd like to have my domains moved to something else.

Is there a solid registrar with an easy to use UI and good reputation that won't try to sell me a bunch of other stuff? Any companies running discounts for transfers? I haven't looked in quite a while.

Also, does anybody know the future of the .app TLD? It was exclusive to Google Domains. I am trying to talk to Google Support but it's not clear that they know the answer.
I have used Namecheap forever...no complaints.
I just really liked the simplicity of Google Domains, and all the other registrars seem like they have other agendas. I'm sure I could move to a legacy option like Namecheap... I was just hoping that there was something better out there.
I’m happy with Hover. Best praise I can give is I don’t have to think about it except at renew time. They don’t bother me with irrelevant stuff or try to upsell me their other offerings.

If I recall, they have an optional (free?) service where you can give them your credentials from your old service and they’ll do the transfer for you. I have never tried it.

I need a domain registrar that offers email forwarding, with SRS [1]. It is incredibly hard to check whether they do this correctly, short of buying a domain and checking myself.

Does anybody have recommendations there? I know Google Domains does, and OVH does not, but apart from that...

’been happy with Pair Domains (pairdomains.com) for years. Bland UI. TOTP based 2FA. Mail forwarding (but unclear if they support SRS, assume not) and domain management. Occasional popup prompts to try weebly on your domains but easily dismissable. No other upsells that I can recall.
For many years, I have been very happy with having most of my various vanity domains hosted at GANDI.net.

I've got only one left that I haven't transferred.
