Ask HN: Someone stole our music and re-uploaded to streaming services

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else encountered this before. Basically, we recorded a couple of albums in a home studio and released it online on Soundcloud about 10 years ago. It wasn't very popular, but something we enjoyed very much. Fast forward to now and we found out that someone took that music and uploaded to multiple streaming services. What's interesting is that our YouTube videos also have a license on them saying "[Company name] on behalf [Band name]".

Is anyone aware of these things happening? How do you fight it? DMCA claims?

I'm an artist manager and deal with this on the daily. A bit of a pain but you just have to fill out a form on each service.

Odd to see anyone on this community talk about theft of creative endeavours. I do not and never will, but most here consider copyright theft. Most people here, I do not and never will, consider all and any type of work produced 'open' and infinitely theirs for the taking.

Except, of course and forever more, comments they don't like.
