The five passengers inside the Titan submersible might not have realised it was even happening. The Titan's pressure hull was made of a combination of titanium and a composite material of carbon fibres, described as "very new". Carbon reinforced plastic collapses "catastrophically", an event that would have happened within 20 milliseconds.
