I am hoping to get this community's ideas on the most humane way to kill bugs. In particular, I have invasive Japanese beetles in my garden that I was first freezing, then I started crushing as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I worry that I am still causing unneeded suffering, though.
Insects understand the world on a much different scale, it makes it impossible to communicate with them effectively. An effective and humane manner would be to direct them by some means, via RF (maybe?), light, or chemical signaling, to outside human dwellings. As it currently stands, insects come off as aggressively uncooperative. I don't know how I feel about crushing things that are just unconcerned about my suffering--as the more developed being, the burden is on me to try to mediate things. The tricky part is I don't want anyone around me getting sick, so killing them is often the option.
For bugs inside my home I just vacuum them up with a hand vacuum that doesn't kill them, open it up outside and they fly away. My personal concern is with invasive bugs outside. I wish to kill them solely for the ecological benefits.
