Ask HN: Recommendations for a payment processor for my startup

Hey everyone,

I'm a co-founder of a SaaS startup and we are looking for a payment processor. After hearing countless horror stories here about payment processors (mostly Stripe and Paypal) and reading this mornings latest horror story[1], I wanted to ask the community if they have any recommendations for a payment processor? I feel like my two "must haves" for any processor are:

1. The ability to do subscriptions

2. The ability to pick up the phone / write an email to support and get a response.

I'm honestly petrified of wading into this "pick a payment processor" world because of all the horror stories I've seen. Does anyone have any recommendations for a processor, preferably one that's a smaller business (compared to Stripe or Paypal).
