Ask HN: Any AI Acceleration Nonprofits?

All of the mindshare seems to be tied up in "AI safety" or more euphemistically "AI alignment". For various reasons irrelevant to this post, I do not think this is a particularly interesting, or a particularly useful endeavor at this point.

The first organization that comes to mind in the safety field is Yudkowsky's MIRI.

I am looking for the opposite of this. Are there any groups out there that lean more towards AI acceleration? That is, primarily focused with advancing the state-of-the-art of AI as a goal unto itself rather than in service of a business objective? Something like the ACM, but perhaps less academic and more singularly focused on this topic.
