Ask HN: How do you motivate yourself to write?

I have a personal blog that I created to share my thoughts and experience as a software engineer. I have several posts there, but all of them are total crap. I want to improve as a writer, but it feels tremendously hard to focus and stay motivated.

Does anyone have some good tips on becoming a good and productive writer?

Make it a habit. Write everyday. Subject does not matter. Look at the news and write on any of the subjects you have a thought on. It's true, practice makes perfect.

For me, writing is its own motivation. So I write stuff like this comment and don't fret about it being good.

Because it doesn't matter. Statistically, nobody is going to read this and statistically, nobody who does will care.

Just dance like nobody is watching. Good luck.
