Ask HN: How to Raise Capital for a Bakery?

1 points by consulting101 ↗ HN
My dad has owned a bakery for 25+ years, and has decided to sell, and I am interested in trying to buy the land ($1.5m) and revamp it into a multi-concept bakery/cafe/bar/restaurant. I've spent years working in food, restaurant, operations, reading bread science and bread books, and am ready to make the leap. How do folks find funding for a bakery concept?

Solid advice from an investor: first, go work at a bakery and/or restaurant and learn the craft before trying to develop the project. You will learn the pitfalls and the value opportunities, you will save yourself from making bad decisions and investors will be much more interested in your project due to your credibility. Good luck and I hope you get to pursue your dream!
Thank you. I've been working in bakeries since I was 5. My earliest memory is "greasing" loaf pans for pullman loaves. For 25+ years I've been cooking, making bread, and more recently is when I've become more interested in the scientific aspect. I work for an extremely reputable and well known hospitality company so I think I come with some credibility but I understand what you mean. It's a risk, will take me out of my comfort zone! Thank you again.
