I've been traveling for the last 10-11 years non-stop, with a carry on suitcase and backpack. The main benefit of having so much room are my 15 pairs of socks and underwear, allowing me to last a while without doing the laundry. I also carry olive oil and various cooking ingredients to use when I have a kitchen. This comes to weird dynamic of such minimalism:

It works when you rely on (read: can pay for) surrounding infrastructure (cafes, restaurants etc.) but quickly collapses otherwise. I'm rather surprised he bothers with the beach towel or sleeping bag, for example.

That said, I am looking to drop about 1/3 of my own things and might replace my socks with those merino wool ones.
