Ask HN: Getting a Job as a School IT Tech from Nothing? (UK)
I've been putting off sorting my life out for a while, been stuck in a job that's getting nowhere and the stress & workload has been ramping up tremendously in the last year or so, and I regret not focusing on IT in college & uni.
One of the few jobs that seems appealing and doable to me is working as an IT Tech in a school, and there's a part of me that feels like I could get there, but I don't know where to exactly start, or what experience or certs I'll need beforehand.
I know this isn't the usual dev/code stuff that gets posted here a lot, but I'm unsure where else to look. Any advice would be appreciated

[ 3.9 ms ] story [ 14.1 ms ] threadDepends on your starting experience and background. Ask around your network and see if you can connect with someone who works at a school and then try to get a handle on what the requirements are for the position you seek. Knowing someone at the school/business you want to get hired in to is a great door opener.
It's a viable first step on the IT ladder for those lacking academic / industry certifications.
