I have seen that lots of jobs which require data entry still use what looks like software from the early 80s.

Desktop console-like stuff. No point and click. Seen it used by retail, car mechanics, travel agents, hotel desk staff.

Justification for this was that it was fast and responsive. Has keyboard shortcuts.

This reminded me of a recent post I saw here about modern software being slow and got me wondering:

Is there a large unfilled market for storefront software which focuses on user productivity and eschews pretty UIs?
