I use similar analogies to describe AI to friends and family. "When AI attempts to solve a maze, it just smashes into every wall over and over until it inevitably finds its way to the exit."
If it wasn't for high-powered graphics cards AI would still be a niche university research subject.
It always suprises me those who have little sympathy for those who's jobs are under threat from AI now, while they assume their own jobs will remain secure
If I had a nickel for every time someone on HN claimed programming alone was impossible to automate because unlike common labor, theirs was the product of pure intellect, I'd have a lot of nickels.
Many of these same people, funny enough, also like to say that artists and creatives don't deserve a living and should suffer because art is an ephemeral, transcendent medium that shouldn't be tainted by commerce.
... probably while sitting in their 10K gamer chair.
The issue of originality in what content is produced hardly seems relevant to the actors themselves. That’s much more about the networks and studios, and writers and production companies.
You've successfully placed the role of perpetrator onto victims of the same phenomenon you've identified. Who controls what projects go forward? The studio. They are the arbiters of what content gets the green light. This same phenomenon is found in every industry but particularly these creative sectors. Video games are the same way. Repeats and sequels. Who controls that? Is it the artist? Is it the writer? Is it the voice actor? No. It's the person with the purse strings who demand return on investment.
The striking folks are pushing against the folks with power within their industry. Somehow you've inverted the power structure and placed blame on the victims.
A lot of people are just getting tired of Cis-jointed background actors & actresses. They are bored with ordinary "8 fingers + 2 thumbs" type hands, and simple elbow and wrist joints. It's time for us to center non-genetically-conforming articulation.

Not so much for neural-net based approaches and the GPU hardware that enables it.

Come up with some good new stories like they were doing in the late 90’s and early 00’s.
Very few original ideas, mostly just rehashed/reshaped content. No wonder they’re scared.
