i hope some squatters take up a respectful residence in some. excess rental units are available becuase people keep buying realestate beyond their means of management... oh wait, we have property management companies for that (yeah right. properties become delapitated, depreciate the town, more property is bought by larger organizations.
American countryside is great. this is the real secret. whomever wants apartments good for them, but when was living ontop of people ever desirable? it IS passe and in 15-20 years more of an exodus from dense areas to depopulated areas will happen and these people snatching up realestate can help pioneer such areas or be left out.

Low-price stock comes from excess supply.
Exterminating small builders by onerous regulation reduces supply.
I personally know 2 builders leaving the industry after decades, who finally succumbed to the relentless onslaught of regulatory and taxation abuse.
But, it’s just a surprise to the regulatori, why prices just won’t come down…
