What are ways to mitigate solar storm risk like the one mentioned in the article? Should we do critical data cold storage in salt mines? This is one of those potentially catastrophic events I've heard little real solutions or mitigations for. I've wondered the same. Will keeping spare computers and electric grid parts shielded underground be the only thing that can be done? Is there anything that ordinary people can do, or would it need to be nation-state level coordination?
From what I understand is that the grid transformers are the items that would be the biggest impacted and the hardest to rebuild at a scale needed once the grid gets hit?
I wonder how a solar storm is percieved by people up in the heigh north, who are affected the most. As in what medical symptoms does it generate? Is there a sort of eb and flow of group madness or shared halucinations?
