When Musk eventually writes a memoir I'm going to be interested in what was going through his head during this whole period. Even speaking as someone who mostly agreed with his stated goals at the time of purchase, I don't think it's even possible for him to have executed in much worse of a way. Has there been nobody he trusts to tell him to stop acting like a power-drunk preteen?
Every word Musk says is oriented not to reflecting facts as they happened, and are, but facts as he wishes they would happen. He's selling something, all the time, and looking for someone to buy it. A claim, an idea, a startup pitch, an excuse for an action, a product that is only but a figment of his imagination, but he's dead certain is almost done. At some point this becomes a habit, it becomes intoxicating, and compulsive.
I don't think reading the memoir of such a man would be illuminating and informative, it'd be just another dose of the same. You're being sold something. And he's hoping you buy it.
Re "Every word Musk says is oriented not to reflecting facts as they happened, and are, but facts as he wishes they would happen." I call it "Wish Straussianism." Not uncommon among hobbyist fascists.
