Running a small personal website on WordPress is like piggybacking an elephant.

I found inspiration in the No CSS Club to build a simple HTML-only website alongside my WordPress one.

I tried to make the content update process as simple as possible. I just add the .txt file to the folder and link it to the HTML file. Syncthing syncs the folder between my computer and my local server, and a cron job syncs the latter with my web-hosted site. It's so lightweight and easy that I'm feeling like dumping WordPress now.

You should set the encoding. Non-ASCII characters appear as broken.
