Ask HN: Do Instagram Video Selfies require recent phone (with face scanning)?

Short version: brother-in-law’s Instagram was hacked, been trying to submit video selfies ever since, now on #23 (no exaggeration). Don’t care if we delete or recover the account — the issue is the crypto scammer is hitting up his network, most of whom are extremely tech illiterate, so a problem on a number of fronts.

Question: has an iPhone SE and I’m wondering if part of the issue is that model’s lack of face-scanning (to my understanding). Any chance someone here has some insight on that? Would just love to know if we should keep giving it a shot or if that’s a technical limitation.
