significant AI-related announcement” next year.

What will be any guess?

I highly doubt they'll call it AI. Probably "Siri Upgrade" Or New on device machine learning models that map language.
Knowing Apple, it is likely to only work on certain devices, especially if they are aiming to be on device, as is their preference for privacy and likely latency reasons, so it will likely be Siri Pro or Siri+

This comment has interesting timing for me -- in the past few days, I've heard two entities (including the company I work for) express that they want to avoid using the term "AI" publicly because they fear that the term is starting to turn people off.

Siri could desperately use all the help it can get from the work already done on that bot. It’s getting dumber with every new iOS.
Yeah absolutely, it’s quite embarrassingly bad now.
My workplace technically makes extensive use of chatbots. Groups that support internal products have it spit out suggestions before a real human gets notified.

Because it's integrated into slack, you can see it gets ignored 100% of the time.

It’s best they dog food this type of thing hard before the public gets their hands on it. It’s one of those high profile areas they have to nail
Would be great if they could integrate it into the shortcuts application, I find that application completely unintuitive.
It's bizarre. They attempted to remake programming — nothing against visual programming environments, btw — and threw out every good practice we've come upon. Favoring “magic variables” over named variables is just insane.
