The capacity of human beings for believing utterly idiotic things and acting on them -- things supported neither by facts nor reason -- never ceases to amaze me.

Sigh.

The documentary, The Decline of Western Civilization Part II, contains an authoritarian woman speaking how heavy metal music was associated with the devil, due to a hand sign. (Also featuring a younger Ozzy Ozbourne!) Very humorous to look back on now, as this all was merely a form of fashion and self-expression.

Look up pictures of the Japan Demon (Oni) Festival and compare that with drag shows. Next, type the words "drag show" in the search bar (google or bing) and see the suggested continuations. Make your own conclusions.
Look up pictures of the Star Wars (Holiday) Special and compare that to furry cons. Next type the words "furry con" in the search bar (google or bing) and see the suggested continuations. Make your own conclusions.
One is a fiction made up in holywood, the other is a reality created by a political party.
Naturally, no mention in this article of Michael Aquino, the US Army Colonel who wrote the book on psychological operations, openly bragged about performing a ritual with a Nazi SS dagger at Wewelsburg Castle, and was credibly accused by children in the Presidio daycare scandal, who themselves exhibited physical signs of abuse and could describe details of the interior of Aquino's house.

But I'm sure if anything like that had actually happened, you would have heard about it already.

The thing I don't get about Satanism/witchcraft and the like is, either you take it seriously, in which case is it really a great idea to be cutting deals with these powerful interdimensional entities for your own benefit? Or with Laveyan Satanism it's basically "Ayn Rand with magic." OR you don't take it seriously, in which case it's sort of overly theatric and involved (and hence pathetic) edgelordery.

Those who are serious believe that they'll get power over others if they please their cruel deity. Those who arent serious fall victims of their vices. Lust brings them to sex clubs where they can do things generally unacceptable. Less common is desire for secret knowledge to get an edge over others. Such is the threefold division of satanism: selfish ambition for the strong willed, desire of occult knowledge for the smart ones, and unhinged sexuality for the rest. Your example with a Nazi SS officer shows how one man can combine all three vices. On the outside, such a sect usually appears as a criminal org, with an unusual initiation rite, like yakuzas or some mexican drug cartels. Wars enable these sects to "upgrade" to something like unit 731.
The kids 'involved' in satanic ritual abuse "accurately" described many things, because they were questioned by adults who had the goal of guiding them to what they thought was the right answer, and connecting any vague statement they made to it. Some to the point of berating and threatening them, if they did not give the answers desired.

Satanists do not go around making ritual child rape altars. That is so fucking ridiculous that it should immediately fail the sniff test for anybody.

> because they were questioned by adults who had the goal of guiding them to what they thought was the right answer

That's not what happened in the Presidio case. The questioners also didn't give the children STDs.

> Satanists do not go around making ritual child rape altars. That is so fucking ridiculous that it should immediately fail the sniff test for anybody.

What's ridiculous about it, exactly? Crowley in particular wrote extensively about his desire to commit "the unforgivable sin." I'm not Christian myself but why anyone would want to associate with this kind of garbage is beyond me.

At the very least, everyone's reflexive knee-jerk impulse to dismiss the very idea as ridiculous makes it an ideal form of cover for actual abusers.

> The thing I don't get about Satanism/witchcraft and the like is...

Satanism and Witchcraft aren't really similar at all, though it's common for them to be wrongly conflated. The modern idea of Satanism can be traced with the founding of the Church of Satan and pretty explicitly has roots in the traditional framework of Christianity. Given Satan's role in Christian dogma, I can at least understand the "ick" factor.

Wicca on the other hand is part of a larger group of modern pagan religions that take inspiration from the kinds of ancient religions that were steamrolled by Christianity and Islam. It has more in common with New Age spirituality than anything else, and it really doesn't seam any more harmful than mainstream religions - in fact it seems less so, due to the lack of organization and agreed-upon canon.

Meanwhile, the public was feasting on this red herring, thousands of minors were being abused and heavily mistreated by priests and employees of Catholic institutions.

Of course, the flesh is weak, isn't it.

And now the GOP is fearmongering about transgender "groomers" and satanic sex-slave cabals within "the left."

Makes you wonder what they're trying to deflect attention from.

There is a new phenomenon like this, at least in German speaking countries, not sure how wide spread it is otherwise.

But there is this is idea that people have been abused in their youth by some satanic cults and they made them completely forget.

So it needs a 'enlighted' (often esotheric) therapist to make these abuse reappear. So in the past years more and more ritual abuse gets 'uncovered' that has virtually zero truth and is completely fabricated by the therapists.

Srf did a great German Doku on it: https://youtu.be/dF7XJ5OZn44

Some German funk YouTube channels also picked the topic up but totally missed to point out that something appears to be wrong about these stories

And then you have the French, Dutch and Belgian case of the pedocriminal network which was unearthed after the Dutroux affair, which, inspired themselves of these late 70s-early 80s satanic panics, started abusing children in a false satanic ritual settings, terrorizing them, and making thus sure the claim wouldn't be taken as seriously as they should have.
You don’t need a conspiracy for these things, you just need power imbalance and lack of accountability- the basic ingredients to conservative society: Laws that protect the in group and constrain the out group.

Catholic Church - Everywhere BBC Celebrity Scandals Epstein Canadian “Native” Schools etc. etc.

These things aren’t suppressed by conspiracies they exist under the eyes of conservative societies where the image someone or an organization organization projects and maintaining it is more important than reality.

The Wikipedia article links to https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rituelle_Gewalt as the German "equivalent" to the Satanic Panic article, and mentions this more recent debate there in more detail.

It also in my eyes cites in a more balanced way how there is a difference between "satanic ritualistic abuse" and "child abuse using pseudo-religious cult structures" (where the primary purpose is the abuse, not some spiritual beliefs), which does exist.

PizzaGate 1.0: Dungeons & Dragons edition.
Lived through the OG satanic panic and as a D&D playing metalhead it sucked.
