Australia is really bending over to please the judges in the competition to be the 51st state.
My favourite line in the article is this:
"The Defence Minister also denied the United States was making the move because it had been unsettled by the security pact signed by China and Solomon Islands last year — a move which blindsided Australian officials and undermined American confidence in Canberra's intelligence capabilities in the Pacific."
Yeah nah, totally not that. We know what we're... sorry, yep, was that an almond latte sir?
I find the wording extraordinary because it suggests that it was a decision by the US like if they could do whatever they wanted and that Australia was in effect a colony.
