Ask HN: What was your first post submission on Hacker News?

It's the end of week one of being active on HN for me, and it's been pretty interesting so far. Curious to know others' beginnings!

I made an account over a month ago and started posting many comments to the point that HN ordered me to slow down. I stopped commenting for a while and then tried to make an original post but it wouldn't go through, meaning that my post posted but was rendered invisible. I didn't know that it's possible to post but not be seen.

For some reason, my karma dropped from 6 to 1. I can comment but still cannot make an OP. Trying to get my karma back up.

Oh! Did you try reaching out to support? They could help you out with this issue.
Your post is this one:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36370500

It is not "invisible", it is "dead", you need to change settings to "show dead", see here:

https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html

see also there how karma points work, if you had 6 and they became 1 it means that (approximately) 5 people downvoted one of your comments or submissions.

Why it became dead could have many reasons, it could be an automatic action, a moderator one, something else.

You posted it as a "Ask HN" while probably it should have been a "Show HN" and made once you already have released the software, also, you might want to post the link to the actual project instead of your ""general" page.

How did you find my post? Are you a moderator? The post was visible to me but it didn't show up on the news feed.

Ask HN is what I intended. I wanted to gauge the level of interest before jumping to the full reveal. I'm still not ready to release the latest version of my proxy server (which is quite a major update), partly because I wasn't able to get the feedback that I was looking for. The feedback is important because I've been working on this project for over two years and I still have no idea what sort of response I should expect (I have never seriously tried to promote it).

Also, my "general" page IS the project because there is more than one moving part.

P.S. How long do I have to wait when HN starts telling me to slow down? I've posted 5 times which doesn't seem excessive.

I am a common user.

I have set "showdead=1", the choice is there as some people may want to not see at all the dead posts, while some other people may want to see them anyway.

You asked a few questions and I gave you some answers, according to my experience.

The page you provided as link, very likely was seen as a confusing mishmash of several projects, IMHO you should (in your next post) give some more info, the very little info that is on that page:

>Kraker Local Proxy Server is a tiny server based on Node.js which is a popular open-source web server development platform. The server is used by Alleycat Player to access websites which would normally be inaccessible due to browser cross-origin restrictions. This is fully explained in the installation instructions.

>A recent upgrade provides an additional feature. This is a Socks5 tunnel proxy which you can use with your web browser to select your preferred DNS provider or to bypass the DNS altogether. You can also access the Tor Network automatically for ".onion" links. This requires installing the Tor Browser or the stand-alone Tor client.

needs to be looked for, and many people won't take the time to scroll and find it.

You should (still IMHO) expand the info and place (a copy of) it on the actual project page:

https://8chananon.github.io/Alleycat-Player/current/download...

which is the URL that you should post a link to.

Thank you. I will carefully consider your advice.

Looks like my first post was this:

`Scanner: Efficient Video Analysis at Scale`: https://scanner.run/

Looks like the domain expired too!

Wow, you've been here for 2 years! That's great. What do you like the most about HN?
To keep up with the tech industry. Tech moves very fast, and is always innovating. Also, I like when I learn of a new game changing tool/service/product.
