Ask HN: Major FOMO of not being in SF in early 20s

4 points by gtkid1999 ↗ HN
I've been following ycombinator's YouTube channel for a while now and today, Michael Siebel and Dalton Cadwell talked about how being in SF is instrumental to be a successful founder as a result of the network effect. I can't move to SF because of TN visa restrictions (don't have a CS degree therefore can't work as an swe) but am I really missing out on a lot? I live in Toronto and I know the startup game in Canada is not comparable, but I just feel like I'm missing out on a lot right now. The grass will always look greener on the other side and Toronto is a great city with a few startups. However I want to meet really cool people that are building great things. Seems like silicon valley is the place to be

You said yourself: you’re not powerless. It’d be lots of work, but starting a cs degree is possible.

But it’s also not everything to be in SV. You can do lots by being a high quality remote worker from Canada.
