Contrary to what the English tweet says the German newspaper said that they did not decide for batteries because "they are better" but because "they are cheaper to operate".
It is two separate mass transit agencies buying these trains. It doesn't even make sense you can just directly electrify rail instead of using batteries. This is just another greenwashing announcement. Hydrogen trains actually makes sense for non-electrified routes.
