what people still dont get to this day is that everything is relative. You have to create both the object of wonder AND the baseline.
Everything in lotr feels massive because frodo, the main character, is a mundane hobbit thrust into a magical world.
We as humans instinctively are transfixed to what is above us. And more so to something above everyone else.
Laser vorpal swords or whatever might not be interesting if its a dime a dozen in that fantasy world. But let's imagine a 'inverted vorpal sword',or whatever, the strongest one which only exist 1 in that fantasy world, that is much more interesting.
