The Chrome Omnibox is one of the worst UI/UX devices ever invented. It continues to break web paradigms set in stone 30 years ago, with its protocol trimming, TLD guessing games, ditching the lock for a squiggly new icon which makes no sense to anyone but the designers, etc. It is a nightmare to use with internal hosts, more often than not leaking those host names by sending them as search engine queries - usually when editing an existing URI. It is filled with bugs that will never be fixed. The fact that we continue to cheer Google on for this disaster is deplorable.
