the failure of Eskom may inadvertently catapult South Africa into the forefront of decentralised energy production. Imagine residents producing and consuming their own energy, without need for a centralised grid, it's an exact description of the atrophying of the state
The state existed long before electricity, and the government does far more provide electricity.

The end of apartheid was a far greater reduction of government power and influence, but did not atrophy the state.
