I have a fair amount of skepticism about climate change, but I have to wonder: if things were going to be dire in 10 years, wouldn’t the practical thing to do be to sound the alarm saying that we have 2 years or we all die? How can you make people take it seriously before its too late?

Not really, because after two years pass and we don't all die, you will have a hard time trying to get people to trust you again afterwards.

If you were going to “wait and see” anyways, then it wouldn’t have mattered.
