Ask HN: Shared messages, chat, task tracking, calendar for family
The tracking of everything that needs to be done for family starts to feel very disjointed. We use facebook messenger for chat, google calendar for calendar, asana (free) for tasks.
Asana is too expensive to justify it's cost for family.
Any suggestions on something more integrated, suited for family needs? It can be paid, but I cannot justify $11/seat for family things that asana asks.
We can easily move from FB for messaging, if we will need to, but google calendar integration is a must.

[ 4.9 ms ] story [ 22.9 ms ] threadYou can share one One account with the whole family (up to six members). I pay $19.99/year for 100GB. I maintain 3 alternate personal accounts who are my "family members" lol.
You'll also receive access to live, responsive, literate support techs via chat and phone.
Can they be organized into groups/projects?
You can create Lists of tasks, and thus group them upon creation. You can also reassign them to another list at any time.
As long as you are working in the Desktop version of Tasks, you can create and manage complex subtasks for every task. This has a title, details, and a date/time, so if your master task is composed of, say, five steps, then you can create five subtasks with separate deadlines for each, and mark them off as you go.
Tasks can repeat, so if you have an annual routine you do every July 31, have at it! Want a simple reminder to eat your Wheaties every morning? Make a daily recurring task! You'll receive a Calendar notification for it, where you can mark it as done, or delete it or whatever.
A limitation you may need to know is that Tasks won't work across accounts. So if you're managing some tasks at example@gmail.com, they won't appear for ejemplo@gmail.com, won't be able to share them or enable collaboration on tasks. In this case, I would recommend using Calendar Events instead, because these do have such features.
