Seems like this would just be a ban on having it on government owned devices? I feel like they should just have a blanket policy of not allowing any software that isn't explicitly approved and required for your job, if government employees want to get a personal device they are free to do so. Seems so strange that that's not the case already.
In the byod era not so much. And besides that, you're asking to spend money on an mdm solution that solves a problem only hawks really complain about so you don't know if it's really even a problem of just politics

WeChat, unlike TikTok, is known to be directly controlled by the Chinese state. It's not a secret. Why wouldn't it already be banned on government devices?
If it's government own devices, I don't think you should be making tiktok videos and using a Chinese controlled messaging system. However, if one does travel to China on political trip, I heard you need a cell phone to make purchases.
