[ 3.5 ms ] story [ 74.5 ms ] thread
Despite my best efforts, I continue to be amused by this "story."
the proposed fighters are none other than musk and zuck.

no, really. that’s the first paragraph.

> UFC president Dana White has said he spoke to Italy’s culture minister about the prospect of staging a fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg at the Colosseum in Rome.

If Dana White could shepherd that into reality he needs to go into the entertainment CEO Hall of Fame.
I'm sure he's excited to not have to pay them. (UFC is famous for paying their fighters really poorly and Dana is squeezing them as much as he can get away with.)
with fighters like these, dana probably wants them to pay him.
I'm guessing the profits would go to charity in order for Musk/Zuckerberg to agree and this would be effectively just a massive advertisement for UFC/MMA.
A shame. I wonder what the undercard is going to be.

I'd hope they do more of this, despite not being able to sell many in-person tickets at this venue. (as well as the (minor) risk of damaging a historic building)

That will be a bad day to have a set of working eyeballs.
If this happens, is it going to be an exhibition, or will they actually be trying to hurt each other?
Zuckerberg seems sincere and does jiu-jitsu on his own as a hobby. I believe he wouldn't agree to a staged fight. There may be rules/stipulations in place to make Musk actually agree that would make it a mockery of MMA though. I don't think Musk's actually interested, he seems utterly insincere about fighting but loves attention so he'll keep teasing it.

But really, who knows?

What a time to be alive!
The only people interested in this story are people who don't care about martial aarts. AFAIK Musk has no formal training in any MA. Zuck is a BJJ blue belt I believe. BJJ (Zuck's training) is mostly a ground game. BJJ matches are pretty boring to watch, it's hard to see what's going on, it's 2 guys on the ground trying to get advantage. Don't get me wrong, it's fun AF to do, but it's not a great spectator sport.

Zuck is also about 20 years younger than Musk. The entire matchup is so silly. If you want to go see bad BJJ, I'm sure there's a tournament near you this weekend. Go and watch the novice grades and you'll probably see better martial arts than what this thing promises.

"Went to see Woody Allen paying the clarinet, not bad, you can find better players. My grandfather listened to Albert Einstein playing the violin, he had a similar experience"

I understand you are promoting martial arts in public awareness, but the idea of Musk and Zuck fighting at the Colusseum for charity is really, evidently beyond any consideration of martial arts subtleties.

The appeal of the story isn't the fight. It's watching two of the richest and most powerful people in the world make absolute fools out of themselves.
I just want to hear the excuses from the Elon fanboys after he gets beat by a guy who is probably 60lbs lighter...
There is a guy at work that brings up Musk all the time. It’s summer so he’s always between vacations. I’ve started to notice when he’s gone, no one mentions Musk at all. In real life people I never hear anyone bring these two up. Only the Twitterratti and the tech bubble care.

Someone recently said that MMA is the new golf for the wealthy.

Toil away peasants, and enjoy the bread and circuses.
I feel like given its history and magnificence only people who fight to the death deserve to fight in Rome’s Colosseum

The boxing and MMA matches especially the exhibition ones (and especially this particular exhibition match between these 2 assholes) belong to the Oakland Coloseum not Rome’s Colosseum.

I don't think the regulators will allow the event to be held @colosseo[1]. Easier in Pompei.
