P4 feels like it's in a rough spot, where it's heavily used, but almost entirely by a couple gigantic companies. And many of these can make their own chip.

So the market for merchant silicon here seems super weak. Intel bowed out, for example.

And without available competitive hardware, there won't be means for people to get interested.

I really hope the open networking world can have a bit of a re-revival but the hardware situation feels semi scary right now.
