Does the “Learn Vim the Hard Way” website still exist?

I’ve been looking and can only find “Learn Vimscript The Hard Way”.

The website I remember had a man in front of some control panel, maybe wearing a space suite, and started with a section named something like “Learn to Crawl”.

Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

There is the vim adventures site https://vim-adventures.com/ but it doesn’t sound quite like what you are looking for.
It's also pretty expensive. $30 for 6 months, I believe. At least a year would be a somewhat more attractive value proposition. But they must be doing fine with that pricing, it's been around forever. So good for them!
This is how I learned Vim a decade ago. Highly recommend.

Did the site change to become this? So far that’s my best guess I’d what happened.
Looking at Wayback Machine, it appears that this book has existed (with this title, at this url) since at least October 2011, and that that version does not appear to have referenced anything with the title "Learn Vim the Hard Way".
You may be looking for "Learn Vim Progressively" by Yann Esposito. It's also how I got into Vim almost 10 years ago.

Same! I love this site and am currently rewriting my own Vim tutorial to be like this but more specific.

Damn …… add something to end of every line was the only one I didn’t know. Fuck I’ve needed that
Are you implying there is an easy way to learn Vim? :)

I remember the "Learn Python the Hard Way" web-site, but I'm having trouble even finding that. It looks like there is a book and a course instead. I wonder if the web-site version of these courses were eventually phased out?

This might be a good alternative:

search by the author (zed shaw).
Sorry I wasn't very clear, but I can't find the old version of the web-site by Zed Shaw. It was a free tutorial and it sounds like it was in the same format that the OP was looking for. I can find the current web-site for the paid course and book.
My experience is Shaw adjusts availability of his work over time.

Given the strong opinions the internet including HN, often expresses about him, I understand why he might choose to do so.

He might as well get paid for suffering ad hominem I guess. And it’s entirely reasonable to reduce the attack surface.

It did used to be free. I used the site years ago for awhile before he announced that he was putting it behind a paywall (except for a few free chapters).
