its pronounced "GIF" with the G as in "Graphics"...
If insisting otherwise gives you joy then great. if hearing it pronounced with the G makes you feel like someone ripstarted your anal beads; then at least you have amused others when you jumped.
edit: this does cut either way. quoth the spec: "spicy", after all. it is ok to disagree sometimes.
