Ask HN: Can I send a sample PCB to the US without FCC certification?

Basically what the title says. I need to send a nfc reader from Canada to the US for testing (not for sale). I just want to make sure I won’t get in trouble with the FCC. I’m in the early stages of doing the certification and just don’t want to jeopardize that process.

Not really sure myself, I’d like to find out too. But I would not expect any issues.

I had the impression you need FCC cert for anything that 'transmit' radio/RF, not receivers...?
