What is "Commercial TV"? Does this not count Australian Broadcasting Corp (and potentially SBS)?
Otherwise, I'm very excited for what this means for football in Australia. Potentially more funding for A-League, perhaps even SBS putting more money towards rights to telecast overseas leagues as well.
The ABC and SBS are basically government funded channels. They are supposed to give everybody in the country some form of Radio and TV service.
'Commercial TV' are the advertisement-funded private TV Channels originally 7, 9, and 10* (but now also include the later extra digital channels run by those companies).
Obviously, some outback areas of the country are not commercially viable, so their Radio and TV services are very likely limited to ABC and SBS.
* Channel 10 was originally aired on the Channel 0 frequencies back in the 1960s. That frequency band was required for some other services, so Channel 0 TV Stations were moved up to Channel 10.
The Ashes is finished. Unlikeable players, gambling scandals, cheating scandals and the general disinterest in cricket as a mainstream sport did it in.
They play too many games for anybody to retain any kind of specialness the ashes used to have and too much of it is locked up on pay TV and sponsored by gambling companies. I just can't bring myself to watch it any more.
Enshittify. Thats what they want. They've enshittified the male versions of sports with the expected drop off in interest and need a fresh enshitifiable source.
