So the question on my mind as a rural resident of the US North is, is this going to happen to the US North soon? Are we in the same boat as Canada in terms of drying forests and undergrowth accumulation?
Yes, much of the western US is also at risk. Warmer temperatures create ideal conditions for pine beetles which run rampant killing entire forests. All that dead wood in addition to other accumulation caused by lack of natural fires means when it burns it gets so hot it kills everything in the soil and essentially turns it to regolith. Hot fires like that take a long time to regenerate from.
