US politics always seems a bit hyperbolic, with either side accusing the other of some form of chicanery. It's interesting to note there is a process for removing a serving member of congress, but it's relatively difficult. You have to get both parties to sign off on the action as the bill to remove a member has to pass committees and the full body (house or senate.)
I mention it here to counter people (some of whom I have met) who may claim there is no way to remove someone from congress.
