It is common for all doomsayers that their timing sucks and is on timescale from next week to 50 years in future. Most of them have nothing more than gut feeling, so having actual model, verifying predictions and adjusting it to actual results is so rare it is worth informing about.
It probably also means ecology is more of a science than economy ever was. And that is despite having same issues - very complex systems, where everything impacts something else and no real way to perform any experiments.
