Euphemistically, one might say that different culture approach the concept of intellectual property differently. In that context it's just a misinterpretation of the MIT licence: permission to fork and claim ownership taken to mean: permission to fork and claim authorship. :-)
What’s the motivation to do so? Removing telemetry and adding another? Or what’s the other features were added/removed?
The reason for forking the source code, or the reason for claiming they are the creators?
Forking it, but assuming that claim is also true, I would be interested to know why as well, since I can’t think of a reason why would someone go in all that hassle (and maintaining it) just to change an icon.
It may be defrauding funds, Chinese domestic developers are also mocking and condemning the company's behavior.
I don't get it. Reddit's OP shared a screenshot along with an automatic translation that says "independent research and development". This is not an authorship claim by any means.
