[–] 542458 2y ago ↗ Very cool. Does anybody have any information on how much improvement they saw in earlier trials?
[–] spathi_fwiffo 2y ago ↗ Could almost mistake it for an NVidia advertisement if you don't read past the headline and picture. "With AMD" you can't see the picture clearly.
[–] tbrownaw 2y ago ↗ > milestone for USC researchers whose stem cell patch is under development to treat advanced dry age-related macular degenerationTeaching human bodies how to regenerate lost / damaged bits is definitely cool.
[–] DoingIsLearning 2y ago ↗ A bit difficult to cut through the university PR. The actual tech:https://regenerativepatch.com/technologySeems they developed a full (implantable) membrane as opposed to doing sub-retinal injections and waiting for things to grow. Not obvious to me how the membrane actually gets implanted. If the founders are here I would be curious to find out more? [–] nottorp 2y ago ↗ It's not a tech startup so I strongly doubt they're in our particular bubble.Edit: not to mention that with it not being a tech startup, the details will be in the patents when they're made public. [–] DoingIsLearning 2y ago ↗ HN was a bubble maybe 5 years ago. Nowadays you have all sorts of technical, tech curious, or just people looking for civil discussion. Not just startups and definitely not just CS folks.I know plenty of non-tech people on HN. MDs, Surgeons, Biotech, Pharma, Medical Device people, Agrotech, Physicists, etc. What still surprises me is the quality of moderation despite the increase in users.

[–] stranded22 2y ago ↗ Wife (and siblings/mother) has retinitis pigmentosa so I’m very interested to see how regenerative therapy progresses.Hopefully in a few years time, there will be a way to improve their vision which will give them back some of their lives again…
