I really miss the HyperTransport age, when this kind of coherency interconnect stuff was an open public consideration, where AMD was trying to make it a open thing. Infinity Fabric is supposedly a HyperTransport derived standard but all internal. No desire to get anyone else participating & increasing the ecosystem.
Infinity Fabric is far far faster than & shirter-distance an interconnect than the alternatives, but notably AMD has been a pariticpant in a variety of the newer standards interconnect efforts. I forget which, but, like, CCIX, Gen-Z, OpenCAPI, and CXL. Which at least shows some interest in new open fabrics, if not exactly the native fabric.
